30 Day Poetry Challenge – Day 15 – Fake Smiles

30 Day Poetry Challenge – Day 15: Peeve Therapy – Think of an annoyance you harbor against someone in your life. Maybe it’s a passerby, a co-worker–maybe it’s a loved one. Write a poem where you confront a petty grudge head on, yet poetically.

Fake Smiles

You pretend you are always happy,
bouncing around with fake smiles,
throwing confetti on those who pass by.
Don’t let them see you cry
or yell at the clunky rottweiler
who won’t stop barking at you.

You refuse to acknowledge any
of the colors on the other side
of the spectrum.
All of your paintings are
yellow and gold and orange.

Polonius said, “To thine own self be true.”
Use all of the colors available to you.

  1. Sara, Loved your poem! Loved the challenge! I am not a poet but I felt inspired because my pet peeve causes”Road Rage” and could lead to trouble. It was good to get it off my chest. So glad I found your website. I will visit often!
