30 Day Poetry Challenge – Day 13: Getting to Know You – Read three poems by a poet you’re not familiar with. Choose one line from each poem and weave them into a new poem. Be sure to indicate and give credit for the borrowed lines.
The train chuffs past
my bohemian apartment
and you press a kiss
to my lazy lips before pulling
a blanket over me
so I won’t be cold.
The neighbor chatters away
with the girls from down the street
and upstairs, the violinist play a solemn
tune, but my attention is drawn solely to
your fingers laced through mine.
Without you, I’d be an unleafed tree
blasted in a bleakness with no Spring.
I never could have predicted this,
but reality is vintage and delicious
especially when you taste it while it brews.
The poet I “got to know” was Daniel Hoffman.
“The train chuffs past” was from his poem, “A Special Train.”
“Without you, I’d be an unleafed tree/Blasted in a bleakness with no Spring” was from his poem, “Yours.”
“Reality is vintage and delicious/Especially when you taste it while it brews” was from his poem, “A Legacy.”
